Join hands with us in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Make a commitment to AIDS Walk Orlando 2008.
AIDS Walk Orlando is a 3K event benefiting and produced by The Hope and Help Center of Central Florida. The Hope and Help Center is a non-profit community-based health organization serving the Orlando metropolitan region. Founded in 1988, our organization is composed of diverse volunteers and staff who provide or facilitate the delivery of high-quality, comprehensive, accessible health care and community services. The Hope and Help Center is committed to ending the suffering of all those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.
At the end of 2003, an estimated 1,039,000 to 1,850,000 persons in the United States were living with HIV/AIDS.* The CDC has estimated that approximately 40,000 persons become infected with HIV each year.
More than 12,500 people in the Orlando metropolitan area live with AIDS. Thousands more people are estimated to be infected with HIV, and one-third is not aware of their status. 51% of infected individuals are heterosexual and 10% are senior citizens. Nationwide, two teenagers (14-24) are infected with HIV every hour.
